about
This song was written for a Gloucestershire based research project and exhibition in 2013, called "I Will Tell You Something Of My Own". I was inspired to write it by one of the participants, who compared the experience of someone like him, living with dementia, with that of anyone else we know, or may meet, who is lost or in need.
lyrics
My name is Lou.
I was a really nice guy, 'til the lightening came and split my sky.
Now, it's not that I'm bad.
It's just the life that I had took me down so deep the love ran dry.
But I need somebody to lead me through the dark.
Won't you feel your way to me?
Feel your way to my heart.
My name is Grace.
The sum of all of my days is lost to me, but it's written on my face.
My hands are old, like the stories I've told.
They've got my life, but they haven't got my soul.
Sometimes I need somebody to lead me through the dark.
Won't you feel your way for me?
Feel your way to my heart.
And, brother, hold on.
Hold on to me, now. Yeah.
And, brother, stay close. Stay by me.
"Imagine", he said, "that you see an old friend.
He's all messed up, so you think you'll pass him by.
Then he whispers your name and, though he isn't the same,
his heart speaks out when you look into his eyes.
It's saying: take some time for me! The world has gone so very dark!
It's saying: please hold onto me! Stay by me!"
'cause we all need somebody to lead us through the dark.
Won't you feel your way with me?
Feel your way to my heart.
And, brother, hold on.
Hold on with me, now. Yeah.
And, brother, stay close. I'll stay by you.
"Imagine", he said.
